IV Ozone Therapy: Biotics Over Antibiotics
Ozone (O3) is a natural healing agent that has no toxic side-effects and is easily available anywhere you have oxygen. It can’t be patented, costs very little, and can take the place of many conventional medical treatments because of its systemic antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, alkalinizing, immune boosting and detoxifying effects. It has been described as a potentiator of healing, stimulating a broad range of physiologic activity. Ozone is used to treat and prevent cancer, heart disease and stroke, respiratory illnesses like bronchitis and COPD, bacterial infections like Lyme disease, neurological conditions like MS and Parkinson's, viral infections like HIV, herpes, hepatitis and Epstein-Barr, fungal infections like candidiasis, inflammatory autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and Lupus, liver disease, digestive and intestinal disorders, colorectal disease, sickle cell anemia, joint injuries or degeneration, and more.
Medical ozone is easy to make on the spot with medical grade oxygen and a small ozone generator. IV ozone therapy takes about 30-45 minutes to inject into a vein, and the effects can last two to three weeks. Only a phlebotomist, someone who can insert an IV needle into a vein, is needed to deliver IV ozone, and many applications through insufflation or infusion into water for drinking and sterilizing or infusion into olive oil for treating the skin can be done at home, contributing to its incredible cost-effectiveness.
If you understand what ozone is, you’ll understand how ozone therapy works. In our atmosphere, ozone naturally forms when sunlight hits the layer of oxygen surrounding our planet, splitting the bond between two oxygen atoms causing the single oxygen atoms to reform in clusters of three as ozone (O3). It’s ozone that protects us from harmful ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Ozone is an unstable molecule, however, unlike oxygen (O2) which is very stable. So ozone naturally will become oxygen again. Ozone is literally enlightening as well as oxygenating, because as ozone becomes stable O2 again, it releases the bond holding the sunlight energy that created it. We can see and smell the process in lightning which releases oxygen and light.
A similar process happens in the body when ozone is introduced into the body directly through injection into a joint, or intravenous injection into a vein, or indirectly via autohemotherapy where ozone is infused into some of the patient’s blood outside of the body and then returned to the body, or through insufflation, or through drinking it infused in water, or applied topically in ozone-infused olive oil, or breathed after it passes through olive oil (ozone can’t be breathed directly because it’s irritating to the lungs), or absorbed through the skin sitting in a head-out individual sauna pod. Once in the body, ozone quickly becomes O2, releasing its extra oxygen atom along with a photoelectrical discharge. Many proponents feel direct IV ozone is better than autohemotherapy ozone, because the discharge of photoelectric energy happens inside the body instead of outside the body. Check out this video of Dr. Bino Rucker giving himself direct IV ozone and explaining why he thinks it’s better than autohemotherapy. The direct IV ozone happens about 2.5 minutes in, after the IV Myer’s cocktail.
I’ve had direct IV ozone numerous times, and it feels amazing, like a flush of energy and fresh oxygen released throughout our cardiovascular system and lymph, and in our organs and glands.
Ozone also causes a systemic detoxification of toxic free radicals from the body. We are exposed to free radicals via pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, petrochemicals, plastics, vinyl off-gassing, heavy metals, radiation, etc. When ozone becomes O2, that extra oxygen atom becomes available to bond with free radicals, helping to neutralize them so they can be more safely eliminated via the colon, liver, kidneys/bladder and skin through sweat.
Because of ozone’s detoxification effects, it’s wise to take some activated charcoal, zeolite or silica before an ozone treatment, to bind with free radicals to help your body get them out faster and more effectively. It’s also wise to stop eating 3-4 hours before a treatment, so the ozone doesn’t react with food in your gut. I like to optimize the effects of an ozone treatment by doing it in the middle of a 10-day nutritional fast when my intestines and colon are empty of metabolic and fecal waste..
Dr. Frank Shallenberger, who has been teaching doctors how to use ozone for 25 years, explains how the process works in more detail. When ozone is introduced into the body, it converts into peroxide molecules known as ozonides that last for weeks after treatment. Ozonides “stimulate the formation of the cytokine molecules that our immune systems use to control and eliminate infections and cancers. They also increase the delivery of oxygen to the cells, which is critical for lung conditions. They also stimulate cells to generate more energy.” In addition, ozonides increase production of nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a topic trending right now in longevity medicine because of its effects on heart health and healthy sexual function. (I’ll write more about nitric oxide in a separate blog post.) Nitric oxide expands blood vessels, increasing blood flow and decreasing plaque and blood clotting. On top of all these benefits, ozonides also stimulate antioxidant enzyme production to help detoxify the body of harmful toxic waste. According to Dr. Shallenberger, studies have shown just 7 to 10 ozone treatments can increase antioxidant enzyme production a whopping 300%. Those enzymes break down waste and toxins and optimize cell metabolism.
For all these reasons, ozone therapy is a medicine of our future—a medicine that is sustainable and can provide greater health and wellbeing to billions of people at virtually no cost after the initial investment in an ozone generator. Ozone itself doesn’t have to be packaged and shipped, so it leaves no carbon footprint. In countries with universal health care where the focus is on prevention and lowering costs rather than making profits in the billions treating people who are already sick, ozone therapy has already been integrated into medicine. In Germany and many other European countries, ozone therapy is a standard practice.
If you live in the U.S. and haven’t heard of ozone therapy, it’s because our health care system is a for profit system in which ozone appears to have little value. But for that very reason, ozone therapy is disruptive to conventional medicine. It’s everywhere, and if you seek it, you will find it at some practitioners’ offices (naturopathic physicians and integrative medical doctors are often trained to use it), wellness centers, and even IV vitamin bars. Try ozone once and it will change your perception of healing forever.
Ozone therapy is also used in dentistry for a variety of purposes. It can be applied through a small cup that covers the tooth or gum area to kill caries bacteria that cause cavities in teeth and periodontal bacteria that cause gum disease. It can be used after oral surgery to cleanse and sterilize the surgical site. It can be injected into tooth sockets to treat infected root canals, and delivered in water as a disinfecting rinse after dental treatments. Ozone can also be used to sterilize equipment and counters. Not all dentists in the U.S. use ozone. Conventional dental schools in the U.S. often don’t teach it, because it hasn’t been incorporated into standard medical practice here. So when choosing a dentist, ask if the dentist uses ozone therapy in his or her practice.
If you’ve been ill and are having trouble getting back to better health, ozone therapy can bring the feeling of hope. For example, people who have taken many rounds of antibiotics and are now dealing with antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections have access to a potent antimicrobial treatment with no adverse effects to your microbiome. Ozone feeds oxygen to beneficial aerobic bacteria in the gut—a Godsend when antibiotics don’t work anymore and are causing more harm than good.
I often experience a heart opening during ozone therapy, triggered by an embodied realization that mother Nature has provided for us in ways we haven’t in the past been able to imagine. It’s an awakening to realize in such an embodied way that a preventive healing agent easily at hand is better than racing for a cure every month for a different chronic illness—and never seeming to finish the race.
